In the days of Jesus, many people were waiting for the kingdom of God to come. Most of them pictured a real kingdom, with a king from the family of David on a throne in Jerusalem, an army that would drive out the Romans, and their own nation on top again. They watched for signs of it in the sky and in the news from the cities.
One day some Pharisees asked Jesus when this kingdom would come. His answer must have surprised them.
