Terms of use

How we share Mercy with each other.

Mercy is a free app, made by a small Christian ministry, so that people can pray, learn, and carry each other's hard days. These are the few rules that keep it a safe and kind place, written as plainly as we can say them.

Agreeing to these terms

By using Mercy, you agree to this page.

When you use the Mercy app or this website, you agree to these terms and to our privacy policy, which tells you what we keep and how to delete it. If you do not agree, please do not use Mercy. Mercy is for grown-ups, so you need to be at least 13 years old to use it.

Free, with nothing to buy

Mercy costs nothing, and shows no ads.

Mercy is free on iPhone and on Android. There are no ads, there is nothing to buy inside the app, and we do not sell your information. If that ever changes, we will update this page first and tell you in the app, and we will never charge you for something you did not choose.

Your account

Keep your door locked.

You can sign in with Apple, with Google, or with an email address and a password. Please keep your sign-in safe, and tell us if you think someone else is using your account. You are responsible for what is posted from your account.

What you post

Write the way you would speak in church.

Mercy lets you post prayer requests and replies that other people can read. We ask you to love your neighbor in what you write. Please do not post anything that:

  • is cruel, hateful, threatening, or meant to shame someone;
  • tries to trick people, asks them for money, or sells something;
  • is sexual, violent, or not safe for a child to stumble on;
  • shares someone else's private details, like an address or a phone number;
  • pretends to be someone you are not;
  • breaks the law, or belongs to someone else and was copied without permission.

New posts are read by an automated checker, and sometimes by a person, before or after others see them. We may hide or remove any post that breaks these rules, and you can report or block anyone who makes you feel unsafe.

Who owns what

Your words stay yours. You let us share them.

You own what you write in Mercy. By posting it, you give us permission to store it, show it to other people in the app, translate it into other languages, and check it for safety, for as long as it stays posted. This permission is free, it applies worldwide, and it ends when you delete the post or your account, except for copies other people already saw.

The prayers, teachings, art, and design in Mercy belong to New Testament Only. You are welcome to read them, save them, and share them with friends from inside the app. Please do not copy them in bulk or sell them.

When someone is hurting

We pray with you, but we are not doctors.

Mercy is a ministry, not a medical, counseling, or crisis service. When a post sounds like someone may be in danger, the app shows crisis resources, including the 988 Suicide and Crisis Lifeline in the United States. If you or someone near you is in danger right now, please call 988 in the United States, or your local emergency number.

Ending things

You can leave any time. So can we.

You can delete your account whenever you like, from inside the app, by tapping You and then Delete my account. We may suspend or close an account that breaks these terms or puts other people at risk, and we will try to tell you why. We may also change or stop parts of Mercy, or the whole app, and if we ever close it, we will try to give you notice first.

The careful part

Offered in good faith, as it is.

We work hard to make Mercy good and true, but we give it to you "as is" and "as available." We do not promise that it will always work, never have mistakes, or meet every need, and other people's posts are their own words, not ours.

As far as the law allows, New Testament Only and the people who make Mercy are not responsible for any indirect, accidental, or follow-on loss that comes from using the app or this website, or from not being able to use them. If we are ever found responsible for anything, the most we will owe is the amount you paid us in the twelve months before the claim. Mercy is free, so for most people that amount is nothing. Some places do not allow these limits, so some of them may not apply to you.

The law, and changes

If these terms change, we will say so here.

These terms are governed by the laws of the State of North Carolina, in the United States, without regard to its rules about conflicts of law. If one part of these terms cannot be enforced, the rest still stands. When we change something that matters, we will change the date at the top of this page and tell you in the app. Using Mercy after a change means you accept the new terms.
